Since I was a young boy I enjoyed sports. I engaged in different sports including gymnastics, swimming and basketball.

In 1964, I chose to pursue fencing and continued until 1985. During these years, I became a USSR master of sports, repeated champion and medalist of Armenia. I defended the sporting honor of the Republic in many All-Union and International competitions.

From 1968 until 1972, I studied in the Yerevan State Institute of Physical Training.

Immediately after graduating, I continued to work there as a lecturer of fencing in Spartak voluntary sports society, at Yerevan State Polytechnic Institute, as well as at the child sports school of Olympic reserve. I have also worked as a senior laboratory assistant at the chair of fencing at the Institute of Physical Training.

For many years, I worked as a masseur in different rehabilitation centers of Yerevan. From 1972 to 1973, I served in the Soviet Army. In 1974, I fell in love with my first wife, Marietta Harutyunyan, who gave birth to our beautiful daughter, Lilit in 1975. My daughter gave birth to two lovely grandsons, who are the pride of my life. In 1984, unfortunately I was divorced from my wife, but later the same year I met my present wife, Nelli Matinyan.

From 1990 to 1993, I worked in "Maratuk" travel agency as a clerk. In November 1993, I suddenly became ill and ultimately unable to walk. I was diagnosed Arachnomyelities.

I joined the Paros Chamber Choir in 1998.
